I don't remember when I have not been involved in Fine Arts. It is the life giving me great joy with successes and consolation when distressed. A solid art education included honor's placement at Washington University, a full scholarship to PAFA and a stint of liberal education at Columbia University. Hobson Pittman at PAFA told me during a critique I should live in an Ivory Tower and paint, leaving all else behind.
Sixteen years spent in New York included mixing with the illustrious including writers, James Salter, Noel Parmentel, Jr. and Joan Didion; film directors, Francis Coppola and Frank Perry; and artist, Yoko Ono. After acting as an Associate Producer for Frank Perry I was offered work with Robert Solo, Director European Operations, at Warner Bros. in London.
Subsequently, an offer came to work on a documentary for the Irish Industrial Authority out of Dublin. I traveled to Belfast after the documentary had finished shooting. I was interested in studying and writing about the Troubles in Northern Ireland. This lead to an opportunity to work for ITN in Beirut.
Pertaining to art: although not painting in much of this period, my experiences were forming an expressionistic mind and attitude; the paintings I did led to being collected by one museum and solo exhibitions including a solo at the Mint Museum In Charlotte, NC.
I became a parent. I owned a nursery in London. My son became my focus. We left England moving to a small village in Provence. I began a series of crosshatch drawings. After five years in France my son's education became a priority, and we returned to the States.
I began a series of realistic oil pastels leading to solo exhibitions in California. After drawing in France, I was reassuring myself by adding color. Ultimately color became my obsession and dominates to this day in different Minimal styles.
My works have sold domestically and internationally. I welcome commissioned work. If you are interested in commissioning a painting or portrait, I would be happy to work with you.
